29 year-old Meshek Banner, an electrician from mile 8 on the George Price Highway, is at the Belize Central Prison tonight. That's after he was taken to court for allegedly stabbing his common-law wife to the right side of the chest.
The incident happened on Sunday, June 16th, and police report that at around 6 a.m. on that day, they received reports of a domestic dispute at #28 Guadalupe Street. When they arrived, they found 36 year-old Orlette Sanchez suffering from that stab wound. She reported to them that she and Banner, her common-law husband, had a quarrel which escalated when he pulled a knife and stabbed her with it. She was taken to the KHMH in a stable condition. Police say she was trying to separate from him.
Police arrested and charged Banner with attempted murder, and he was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford. She didn't take any plea from him, and she informed him that she could not offer him bail at the Magistrate's Court's level. He can, however, hire an attorney and apply for bail at the Supreme Court.
With that, she remanded him into custody until the next adjourned date of this case.
