One eyewitness, a taxi man in the area, spoke to Plus TV - and said that, form what he observed the teenaged driver seemed to have not noticed that he hit the child.  The driver's attorney disagrees:

Eye Witness
"All the lee girl told me was good evening sir, I said good evening baby and we continue walk and right by the taxi stand I sit down and she continue cross the bump and not even seconds and I hear bop! And when I look it's the same lee girl that I was walking with. So I holler out for bally, I done see the lee girl under the vehicle with the bike but he no stop, he just continue go dig. So I see that and I just jump out of my slippers and I chase him down mien about 50 yards, I chase him down and so a next vehicle see me the knock the vehicle and the chase him down and so bally stop and help to stop the vehicle and I dig and I knock on the vehicle to make the man come out too dig but he never want come out but on the longer run he come out and I said but boy, you're young, you no got driver's license? Where your insurance deh? He said he no have none of that! And I tell him boy you no need to drive, come out here and stay right here and I tell ah make he stay there. He said he will call his pa, I said call your pa. I ask ah boy you no see you knock down somebody and you the look to drive away? He said I no see nothing, I no even see the lee girl on the bump. I said how you no wa see the lee girl on the bump! It's on the bump the lee girl deh. If he mi stop when I holler the first time, the lee girl was under, she just the look to get up and the back wheel just mash her on her head."

Reporter
"Why you think he never hear you the first time you holler?"

Eye Witness
"Because the glass was up, the vehicle tinted."

Hurl Hamilton - Attorney for Accused Minor
"That is not so, I want to make that clear, that is not so. As a matter of fact, the minor as I understand it, my instructions are actually remain there, was helpful in trying to ascertain exactly what happened. He did not try to run away from the scene, so I want to correct that."

Reporter
"Do you know if the minor was aware? Because he said he was not even aware that he had caused such an accident."

Hurl Hamilton
"Well I wouldn't want to get into the details of the case, suffice to say that, the minor did not run away from the scene. He didn't even attempt to run away from the scene."

A statement from another attorney representing the family says that "the driver did not try to escape or drive off- he stopped; there are witnesses to that and the police report also confirms that."

From our observation of the footage of the accident scene, the vehicle appeared to be a maximum of 25 yards, not 50 yards from the point of impact.
