Police Digging Deeper in Case of Unlicensed Belmopan Driver
posted (June 20, 2019)
As we told you last night, a 15 year old unlicensed driver has been charged for knocking down and killing 8 year old Our Lady Of Guadeloupe student Gabriela Corrales. Based on our information, on Tuesday afternoon, Corrales was riding home after school. She went through the Dakers parking lot, she kept riding until she stopped by the Taxi stand on the road side. That's when she took off across the street on the pedestrian ramp and the 15 year drove off at the same time in A Toyota Land Criiiser with no license or insurance and struck little Gabby. The vehicle crushed her head. Today at the police press briefing, Supt. Hilberto Romero from the national crime investigation branch told us that they are still looking into other elements in this case.

Reporter
"Can you say how that minor got the vehicle?"

Hilberto Romero, Supt. Hilberto Romero, Acting O.C., Crimes Investigation Branch
"That issue is under investigation at this time. We have only charged so far the fifteen year old minor. Part of that investigation is ongoing right now."

Reporter
"Can it lead to a point where his parents can be charged with anything?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Well that is a possibility. Again the investigation will reveal, we are looking for further evidence. Whoever needs to be charged will be charged?"

Reporter
"Sir has police looked at any surveillance footage of the area?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Yes. We have conducted an investigation, conducted several interviews and checked the area for surveillance footage."

Reporter
"Are you able to clarify because there are discrepancies whether fifteen year old had tried to flee the scene or render aid to the little girl?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Well at some point he stopped right after the pedestrian ramp, a couple yards after the pedestrian ramp. So the vehicle came to a stop there and that is when people came around and the driver remained there with the vehicle."

Reporter
"Can you assure the public that a thorough investigation will be done into the matter, irregardless of what connections the accused may or may not have?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero
"He has been charged and he is before the court. That part of the investigation has been done and further work continues and that will be carried out."

As we told you, the 15 year old boy has been released on $10,000 bail. The case has been adjourned until August 26th.
