Corozal Resident Murdered On Time Off From Work
posted (June 24, 2019)
The deadly weekend's first killing happened at the start of the weekend in Corozal town. 23 year old David Martinez was visiting his family in Corozal Town in the San Andres Area. He had arrived on June 14th and was scheduled to return back to San Pedro on Saturday, where he works, but he was fatally shot by two gunmen on Friday night.

Martinez was sitting on a white bucket under a shed in the family yard, socializing with two friends. The shooters, who had their faces covered, walked into the yard and reportedly hid behind a blue vehicle which was parked inside the yard. That's the position from which they fired, and police say Martinez was hit in his right lower back.

Here's what they know about the incident so far:

ACP Joseph Myvett
"On Friday last sometime around 8pm, Corozal police was called to an area on San Andres Road in Corozal Town where upon arrival they saw the motionless body of a male person later identified as David Martinez, 23 years old of the said address. He appears to have had a gunshot injury to the right lower back. As a result he was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead of arrival."

"What the police know so far is that the deceased and two other persons were conversing in his yard when two male persons dressed in black approached the yard from nearby bushes, fired several shots in their direction; one of which caught the deceased."

"So far police have detained several persons and are following several leads. We are also appealing to the public to assist us with whatever information they have that can assist us in this investigation."

"Is there any information to police suggesting that maybe the victim was under certain threat?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"None that the police gathered so far, other to say that the victim was working in San Pedro and had just come home a few days back."

Police had detained two persons - but had to release them without charge today.
