Griga Man Came To Visit Family In City, Targeted By Gunman
posted (June 26, 2019)

There was another killing in Belize City early this afternoon - and this time, the victim is a Dangriga resident who came to visit relatives in the city.

Just before 1:00, 33 year old Derrick Tracey and his girlfriend were visiting his sister Linda Tracey at her home, corner of Ebony and Sittee street when a gunman ran up to them and fired 5 shots at Tracey.

The gunman dashed off while Tracey slumped to the ground with multiple wounds to the chest and arms. He was rushed to the KHMH but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police found five .45 expended shells - which is high powered, prohibited ammunition. Police are reviewing security cameras in the area and believe it is gang related.

Tracey is well known in Dangriga town - and not known as a criminal type.  But, his relatives in Belize City may have been targetted by others - and when he appeared, it gave the killers an opportunity to catch someone with their guard down.  We'll have more on this tomorrow.
