Two years after taking over the reigns of BTL - CEO Rochus Schreiber has confirmed that he is leaving the company. In a text message this evening Schreiber confirmed reports but said that he is leaving for personal reasons.
He said his departure is not immediate and, quote, "There will be an orderly handover of responsibility to a new Belizean CEO."
And while Schreiber says it is an orderly departure, with such an abrupt move, and no direct successor in place, it can hardly be that. We are told his departure is the product of internal differences at the senior management level - and that he is not leaving on the happiest of terms.
But, he is leaving, and he leaves behind one of the richest compensatIon packages Belize has ever seen. Schreiber had a base salary of almost half a million Belize dollars, which worked out to about three quarter million with incentives.
His tenure at the helm of the company saw it make many major transitions, rolling out a national fiber networks and re-branding to "Digi." On the downside, profits have not grown during that period.
Schreiber confirmed this departure has nothing to do with the recent news about sales tax arrears. More on who will take his place next week.
