Coast Guard Will Monitor SP Lagoon
posted (June 28, 2019)
Another of those immediate measures will see the Coast Guard establishing a greater presence on the waters surrounding the island - on the sea - coast and the lagoon side.

Williams told the town meeting in San Pedro on Wednesday night that the coast guard will employ a new operational mode in the lagoon - using smaller vessels:..

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Mr. Soberanis and the Belize Coast Guard has agreed that they have deployed 2 boats to SAn Pedro. Not the big boats, but the little ones that can go in the lagoon to the back and will be able to navigate even through shallow waters. Yes, they will have one that is capable of going on this side where the waves are higher and seas are rougher, but again it is important that we maintain presence in the lagoon as well as in the sea."

Lt. Com. Greg Soberanis, Belize Coast Guard
"Citizen safety and security, maritime safety and security is of utmost importance to us. We understand that you as residents here need to feel safe in your own communities and as the coast guard we have a huge responsibility in ensuring that that occurs. Your presence here tonight speaks volume. Your presence here tonight is definitely making a statement and we want to say likewise that our presence here tonight is also making a statement of commitment as residents here in San Pedro. The uniform that we wear is not a fashion statement. This uniform that we wear says that we are committed to each and every one of you and that we are willing to go the extra mile for the cause, that we are willing to lay down our very lives for the cause."
