Today's release from the National Security Council also says, quote, "The Commissioner of Police is in San Pedro today and has assumed personal responsibility for bringing to justice the killer of the murdered tourist and tour guide."

Indeed, for Williams whose mettle is being tested by a string of recent murders - this one is personal. And, on Thursday night he intimated that the drug gangs of San Pedro will face a tough crackdown:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"There is something that is being done about the gangs but I will not say. You will just going to see it happen, but we are serious about ensuring that we address the gang issue and that will be done, there are alternative means that we are going to use to deal with the gangs, so sit back and you will enjoy the scene as it happens."

Today's National Security Council release adds that a "task force comprising members of the San Pedro contingent and the local chapter of the BTIA will be formed to monitor law enforcement performance and crime reduction in Ambergris Caye."

It ends by saying, quote, "The NSC assures all that nationally a full court press is being mounted to deal with citizen security issues, and that in this regard, the processing of a new police intake of over 170 recruits will begin within the next two weeks."
