OW Accident Victim Loses Both Legs
posted (July 1, 2019)
A 69 year-old man from Orange Walk Town is recovering from a double amputation of his legs after they were crushed under an R. Tillett Bus.

It happened on Queen Victoria Avenue in Orange Walk, sometime before 6:00 last Friday evening. 69 year-old Primitivo Itza was attempting to cross the road near a pedestrian ramp, when he was knocked down by the bus, which was on the way to Corozal. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, but due to the extent of the injuries to both of his legs, doctors couldn't save them.

Police told us more at today's briefing:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Friday evening, sometime shortly before 6 p.m., Orange Walk responded to works of a traffic accident on Queen Victoria Avenue, where upon arrival, a passenger bus was seen northbound. And just behind the passenger bus, an elderly Hispanic man was seen on the ground, with injuries to both legs. His name was learned to be Primitivo Itza, 69 years of a Palmar Road address. He was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, where, because of these injuries, both were amputated. The driver was taken into custody, and a notice of intended prosecution has been served on him, pending the outcome of the investigation. What he reported to the police, is that whilst in the area of the park on Queen Victoria Avenue, he had made a brief stop, and whilst moving off, he heard the sound, as if though he ran over something causing him to stop."

As you heard, the driver of the bus has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
