Charged For Causing Cousin’s Death in Accident

In the early morning of June 7th., Evan Gillett was driving a red Saturn SUV with his cousin, 25 year old Michael Young in the passenger seat when he lost control of the vehicle and it crashed violently into a median near mile 4 on Phillip Goldson Highway. Young died on the spot while Gillett received minor injuries and survived. The pair was reportedly coming from a Ladyville nightclub.

Today, 38 year old Evan Gillett was charged with manslaughter by negligence when he appeared today before Magtistrate Emerson Banner. Gillett was also charged with causing death by careless conduct and drove motor vehicle without due care and attention. Magistrate Banner explained to him that his plea will only be taken if the matter is sent up to the Supreme Court for trial. Gillett was released on a bail of $10,000 with 2 sureties of $5,000 each. His next court date is September 5. Gillett was represented by attorney Dickie Bradley.
