Belize Produces Enough Onions to Feed Population
posted (July 2, 2019)
Belizeans use thousands of pounds of onions every week, and the Ministry of agriculture says there's enough local product to feed the country.

They completed the yearly Onion Availability Assessment last week when they visited three major onion producing communities, namely, Maskall, Little Belize and Neuland settlements in the Corozal District.

The assessment concluded that there is an estimated 130,000 pounds of yellow onions in the above-mentioned communities including San Carlos village in the Orange Walk District.

But, contraband continues to pour in and so the ministry is urging onion traders, vendors and the public to only buy local.

And if you have information on contraband onions or other vegetables, contact the Quarantine Office at the Belize Agriculture Health Authority at 822-0197.
