PUP Says There’s Be No Political Refuge For PM In Sanctuary Bay Debacle
posted (July 3, 2019)

Another matter of finance which the PUP leader was eager to comment on is the Sanctuary Bay debacle.  It has already forced the winding up of Belize largest offshore bank, Atlantic International - and that has left scores of depositors holding an empty bag- standing to lose possibly all their savings.

Weeks ago the Prime Minister announced in the National Assembly that Atlantic International and the Federal Trade Commission had arrived at a settlement.  But today the PUP asked where does that leave the depositors?:..

Hon. John Briceno - Leader of the Opposition
"Obviously the Prime Minister wants to do everything possible to let Sanctuary Bay disappear but I have news for him, Sanctuary Bay will not disappear, it will continue to haunt him where he and his law partners, their names consistently continues to come up in court in the United States for those who have been following it up and more and more is being disclosed as to this whole Sanctuary Bay saga, it's becoming a nightmare for the Prime Minister. I have news for him that is not going to disappear. He has no authority to do any settlement, how can he settle on behalf of the depositors? You see, that is what the Prime Minister is good at, he throws things at you because he's a lawyer and you say okay well, just to find out afterwards he has absolutely no authority to talk on behalf the depositors."

Unconfirmed Reports suggest that that depositors can expect to receive cents on the dollar for their deposits in the bank after liquidation.
