Hon. Kareem Says Opponent Lee Mark Is UDP Status Quo
posted (July 3, 2019)

And, keeping it on politics, we also asked the PUP Caribbean Shores area rep about his new UDP opponent.  Lee Mark Chang won a convention on Sunday by a comfortable margin.  Musa says that’s the candidate he wants to face:..

Hon. Kareem Musa - Area Representative Caribbean Shores
"I like my opponent. I think unfortunately for him though, he would be a victim of circumstance because he comes out of the belly of the beast so to speak, in terms of who he is aligned with in the UDP, in terms of his involvement in the UDP and his failure to address all of the instances of corruption over the last twelve years while the UDP has been in government. He has been, I think, the president of the Senate, he ran in the Free Town division and then came over to Caribbean Shores. I think a lot of people are very sceptical when you have candidates bouncing from division to division. And, unlike his predecessor Mr. Bradley, who tried his darn best to distance himself from status quo UDP, I don't think the same applies to my opponent. I am told that on the day of the convention he had the gentleman who took the passport to Taiwan. He was right there as bag-man and then he had on his right hand the Sanctuary Bay Senator. I mean, it is all showing that he is deeply embedded in what the UDP status quo has been all these years. So, I think he is going to have a very difficult time with the swing voters."

Jules Vasquez
"You know the UDP had been boasting after the yes vote, one so convincingly in Caribbean Shores that it was in fact a victory for Leela Peyrefitte who was working the machinery that day. Mr. Bradley was on TV with me and so they said that Leela had the momentum having won that yes vote and that Kareem Musa lost the no vote. So, the UDP had renewed hope in the Caribbean Shores. What now will you say of that assessment?"

Hon. Kareem Musa
"I think it was your daughter Sahar Vasquez, Jules that interviewed me bright and early on referendum day. And I made it very clear in that interview that I had not asked a single voter to vote yes or no in the referendum. Caribbean Shores is made up of very educated voters who have a mind of their own and who can decide on their own. And I could tell you, leading up to referendum day, and I indicated that to our party leader as well, that the Caribbean Shores voters will vote yes. I knew that before the day and so there was no way that I would go out and tell people to vote no when they have digested all the facts and they feel comfortable with their vote of voting yes."
