Lloyd Leslie Pleads Guilty to Gang Membership

Police have successfully prosecuted another Belize City man for his gang membership. He's 26 year-old Lloyd Leslie, and he has pleaded guilty being member a group that associates with the George Street Gang.

Police say that they carried out an investigation, which began on April 2, 2019. During that time, they conducted surveillance on Leslie, which led them to believe that he is part os a clique of persons who call their gang group "Through the Park", which is located between Dolphin and Currasow Streets. The officers say that their surveillance of Leslie allowed them to spot parts of "Through the Park's" turf which had gang graffiti. They say that they also viewed a Facebook account from Leslie which had photographs post of him and other known gang members. They say that they also have video footage which shows Leslie socializing with other gang members.

He was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson on the offense of being a member of a criminal gang, and he wasted no time, pleading guilty to the charge. The Magistrate sentenced him to pay a fine of $3,500 by March 30th, 2020, and if he defaults, he will spend 8 months in prison.

Police say that apart from the "Through the Park" group, they have identified other gang cells which go by the names "Gaza", "Next Generation" and "Antelope". According to the cops, they are all associated with the George Street Gang, and they identify with the color, red.

Since legislation was introduced, 21 gang members have been charged for being a member of a gang.
