And while Barrow and Williams continues to earn fees from the Sanctuary meltdown - where was the Financial Intelligence Unit?

They did receive an email form the former Governor of the Central Bank waning about the dimensions of fraud in Sanctuary Belize.  Former FIU Director Joy Grant said she got that mail - but then nothing happened.  Here's how she handled it:

"I looked up and I found that email was sent from then Governor Ysaguirre and I was at the FIU. That is dated 26th of September, 4 days after that I took up my appointment as governor of Central Bank."

"The allegation is that the Central Bank did not act on the fraud that was taking place and the Prime Minister mentioned that the bank is a regulatory bank but the fraud that was taking place had to do with a bank."

"I want to go back to the memo because what the memo says, Mr. Ysaguirre said there may be, he did not say there was fraud and that is not in the document, that not printed but I want to be clear with everyone that he said there may be, he did not say there was fraud. Now, as was said by the Prime Minister, we the Central Bank look at financial institutions. There are certain guidelines, fiduciary guidelines and other things set up like liquidity and non-performing loans etc. Those are the things we look at, we do not look at real estate, we do not look at fraud issues in this country."

The PUP this evening sent out a release saying, quote,  "In an attempt at damage control, the Prime Minister hastily convened a press conference. It is worth noting that since Belize Telemedia was publicly accused of withholding over 29 million dollars in taxesâ€Â¦(the) Prime Minister has held no press conference and issued no official statement in regards to this scandalous exposure. Yet today he called the press to protect his name and reputation, which has been irreparably damaged by what was revealed in the US Court Documents."  End quote.
