posted (July 11, 2019)
And those calls for justice are weighing heavily on the police - who have not made any arrests and have no one detained at this time.

Police today discussed what they know about the case - starting with the state of Yanira's body when it was found in the canefield; she had been stabbed multiple times, but she was strangled to death:..

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Police immediately launched an operation in the San Lorenzo Road and on yesterday's date they were joined in the search for Yanira de la Rosa by family members where shortly after 11am her body was discovered in a cane filed in a face down position fully clothed with apparent cut wounds to the chest area. A post mortem has since been conducted on the body which revealed that she died from manual strangulation. The 4-year-old minor is in stable condition and is recovering at this time."

Reporter
"Reports suggest that the deceased may have come into possession of a substantial amount of money prior to her death. Is it believed that robbery is the motive in this particular homicide?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point in time, I will not be able to say that other than to say that certain leads were given to us which we followed, including that she visited a financial institution. And we have exhausted that lead and that proved to be that that was not the case. She did visit, but she did not receive any monies from there."

Reporter
"That's what I wanted to get to sir. What is the investigation showing as the motive of the crime?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point in time, we are still trying to establish a motive. We are following several leads. We believe she was taken to that area in a vehicle which we are looking at as one of those leads at this point in time."

Reporter
"Is it believed that this was a calculated attack on this woman? That more than one persons were involved? What is the investigation showing?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"The police did get that information that it was more than one persons. We have followed that as well and at this point in time, I will not be able to release the answer to say that yes that is the case or it was not the case."

Reporter
"Is it believe that the son witnessed what happened to his mother and has the police been able to interview him about what he saw?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Yes, the police have spoken to him in the presence of his grandmother and other family members, but I can say that some information was had taken into consideration his age and there will definately have to be some supporting or some other evidence hence the reason we have not made a determination as to the motive."

Reporter
"Have you been able to put together an investigation to determine what happened to her, was she forcefully abducted? Did she went willingly?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point we would be able to say that other than to say that she was tracked to several other locations in Orange Walk Town for which the police have gotten statements."

Reporter
"Any arrests?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point in time we have not made any arrests and neither have we had anyone detained other than to say that the police have spoken to several persons, but there were not sufficient grounds to detain any of those persons whom were spoken to."

Reporter
"Is it believe that Miss Novelo was killed where she was found?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"At this point in time I also would not want to speculate."

Reporter
"Do you believe that she was followed to the location being that she would go there everytime to collect money?"

ACP Joseph Myvett
"What I can say that there are statements to say that law enforcement officers were in the area where she went to collect that money and no one was seen following her other than the fact that she was accompanied by her child."

As you heard, no one is detained and no one has been charged. She left from San Jose village with her son win Tuesday morning to go to Orange Walk Town, 5 - 7 miles away. Her body was found on San Lorenzo road, about four miles away.
