16 Year Old Found Killed In Sandhill
posted (July 15, 2019)
On last Friday night's newscast, we reported on the story of Doren Grinage, the 16-year-old resident from Sandhill who went missing last week Tuesday. You'll remember our interview with his worried mother, Denise, who explained that he is not the type of young man to stay out of her house for any extended periods of time.

His family has been frantically searching for him since Thursday, and this morning, their worst fears were confirmed when they found human remains which they identified as his. Those remains were found in the river near BWS' Double Run Water Treatment facility, which is a few miles from away from his family's home.

7News was first on the scene of the terrible discovery, and Daniel Ortiz reports:

Daniel Ortiz reporting
When our news team arrived on the scene, Family members, friends, and concerned residents of Sand Hill were gathered at the riverside near the compound of the Double Run BWS Water Treatment Plant. That's where search parties had discovered the human remains of the missing teenager, Doren Grinage. The 16-year-old was last seen on last week Tuesday and worried that he was hurt or worse, his family started combing all possible locations in and around Sand Hill.

Denise Grinage - Mother of Decease

"No clue where he is. We just need to search somewhere; we need to start somewhere… This is reality, the way how Belize is getting right now if someone is missing for a couple of hours you have to wonder where they are and it's not something that he usually stays out. If he doesn't come home on Tuesday night and you don't see him on Wednesday, something is definitely wrong."

Denise's motherly intuition about her son was spot on. No only was something wrong, it appears that someone killed him and disposed of portions of his body in the river.

Denise Grinage - Mother of Deceased
"Like an hour ago, my husband and some guys were traveling down the river to look, and they saw a part floating. And so, they decided - they said that they found him because he knows the boxers. And he knows how his son looks. So, he called me and told me they found the body, but not knowing that it wasn't the whole entire body. So, the forensics took the parts that they found, and the Coast Guard will probably come and search the river for the rest of him. But I'm just glad, and I am thankful that we found - at least found parts (of his body). We're hoping that we could find the other part so that we can have closure. Because we're looking (in) the entire area, searching for days, and we still couldn't come up with anything."

Its' a very gruesome end to someone as young as he is, and the big question is, what could have led his killers to take such extremes and actually dismember him?

"Do you have any ideas who would want to hurt your 16-year-old like this?"

Denise Grinage
"Right now, darling, I don't even want to think right now. All I'm grateful for is that we found a part of him, and we're hoping that we could find the rest before night. I don't want to worry about that part right now. Let the police deal with their part."

And understandably, discussing the memory of Doren Grinage became too much for his grieving mother, and it was at that point that she politely asked to end her conversation with us.

Denise Grinage
"He was a quiet little boy. He is not a person who talked a lot, and he doesn't have lots of friends. We just came off a family vacation, Sunday evening. And, he went missing, last seen, was Tuesday, Tuesday evening, at about 5:30, minutes to 6. So, he never really gives problems like that or has any problem with anybody that I know of."

Reporter
"What was the last conversation like between you and him when last you saw him?"

Denise Grinage
"I don't really want to talk more about it, thanks."

Reporter
"Okay, ma'am."
