And, keeping it in the south, there was a murder in Alta Vista village this weekend - and a teenaged minor is the suspect.
The 17 year old allegedly killed 36 year old Fidel Edilberto Bardales by chopping him multiple times to the head.

"On Saturday, sometime around 3 am, Dangriga police was called to Alta Vista Village on the Hummingbird Highway where upon arrival they observed the body of a Hispanic male which chop wounds lying on the right hand side of the highway; motionless. His name was learnt to be Fidel Bardales, 36 years Belizean of Alta Vista village. What the police know so far is that he was socializing with others when he apparently had an argument with a 17 year old minor whom, it is alleged, inflicted chop wounds to him which caused the fatal injuries. So far, police have detained that minor pending the investigations while they are doing further follow ups in relation to the investigation."

"In this incident was the minor also socializing? We know that the legal age limit is 18."

"Yes, he was."

"Do you all know anything about the nature of the dispute they might have had?"
ACP Joseph Myvette
"Yes, we do. But I don't want to go into the details of that investigation. Also, other than to say that the information we had was provided to the DPP and the DPP has given further directives which we are working on at this point in time."

"So, it is not a clear cut case where this minor will be charged for murder?"

"At this point in time no, I will not be able to say that."
As you heard, the 17 year old is in custody pending the DPP's advice.
