American Retiree Kills din Placencia By Drunk Driver

And, in one more traumatic death in the south, an American riding a bicycle was knocked down and killed on Friday night by a drunk driver.

It happened between miles 22 and 23 on the Placencia road at around 6:30. 71 year old Robert McNeely - a retiree who lives on the peninsula was riding his bicycle on the side of the road when a 21 year old driver in a Toyota Hilux, Luis Felipe Flores, a construction worker of San Jose Palmar in Orange Walk knocked him down. Flores was along with his father.

"On Friday, sometime around 6:30 pm, Placencia police were called to an area between mile 22 and 23 in the Placencia road where upon arrival they observed a clear complexion male person lying on the side of the road motionless and a few feet away from him was a damaged yellow bicycle- on the same side that he was. A couple of yards further, the police observed a white pickup with two occupants outside of the vehicle. What the police learnt was that the deceased, whose name was learnt to be Robert McNeely, 71 years retired American, who lives in that area, was on his way home when he was hit from behind by this vehicle. The driver has since been detained. His name has been learnt to be Louis Flores 21 years of a Parmal Village address in the Orange Walk district. He has since been arrested and charged from the crimes of manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and driving alcohol vehicle with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit."

Flores's unrine sample established that he was driving intoxicated. Police at the scene also say that he appeared to be drinking.
