The Window of Opportunity For "The Single Window"
posted (July 15, 2019)
All this week, law enforcement representatives who monitor and police cross-border trade are in a workshop discussing the topic of a program coming to Belize called "Single Window."

It's a collaboration between the World Customs Organization, and the Belize Customs Department aimed at improving the way they work to regulate import and export into the country.

They tell us that Single Window is an electronic computerized system, where every single permit and official document needed to carry out importation and exportation can be accessed at one location. It will enable customs to accept all necessary documents at one location, and it allows for the importer or exporter to visit one location to carry out all the necessary processes, instead of visiting multiple offices, to get those permits approved.

The Single Window initiative is in its very first phases here in Belize, and that's why a representative of the World Customs Organization came to train the relevant Government offices on how to implement it.

7News stopped by today, and we spoke with the facilitator about how it will work:

The training continues tomorrow and carries on for the rest of the week. It will end on Friday.

Full implementation is several years down the road.
