And that incident was the first in a series of violent assaults in the city this evening.
The next one happened around 5:30. A 44 year old businessman who is a clothes vendor from Vernon Street, Hilario Diaz was shot on Cemetery Road near its junction with Mosul Street. This is right across from Amara Avenue.
He is confirmed dead tonight - and his body was removed from the scene about 20 minutes ago.
And, then there was another violent assault which happened closer to 6:00 pm. This one involves a Hispanic male person in his early 20's who was stabbed multiple times to the neck. Reports are that it happened on the George Price Highway immediately in front of the bus stop by Western Avenue. Again, his condition is reported to be very serious. We'll follow up when there is new information.
