Shot In Sandhill, the Day After Murder
posted (July 16, 2019)
At the top of the news, we told you about a man shot in the head in Downtown Belize City; a late evening murder of a clothes vendor, and a stabbing a short time ago. But the very violent day started this morning with a shooting in Sandhill village this morning - the same Sandhill which saw an apparent murder yesterday.

At around 10:00, 27-year-old Ivan Hyde, a resident of mile 19 and a quarter on the Philip Goldson Highway was at his home, in the bathroom, when someone barged in, stormed into the bathroom area and opened fire on Hyde. He survived and was being treated for gunshot to his hands and legs.

Hyde told police that he didn't know who his attacker was, and while there was speculation that this may be some fact of retaliation fo the murder of 16-year-old Doren Grinage, that teenager's family stress that they had nothing at all to do with that or any other incident.

Grinage - the nephew of area representative Edmond Castro - went missing last week and human remains believed to be his were found yesterday morning in the river near the BWS's Double Run Water Treatment Plant. Tuesday. His family strongly believes that the remains are his, but police aren't so sure. They are waiting for the results of DNA tests sent to Jamaica, which could take up to 6 months. A post mortem on the remains found the cause of death to be inconclusive.
