Belize City: 3 Murders in 3 Hours
posted (July 17, 2019)

And while Cayo police are seeking suspects for that crime, the Belize City CIB office is overwhelmed with the frightening spate of killings that happened yesterday evening into night.

Between 5:30 and 8:00, three men were murdered in the city.  The youngest victim is 18, while the eldest are 52 and 53.

We start first with the killing of 52-year-old Emmanuel Ampomah, a Ghanian taxi driver who lived on Chetumal Street in Belize City.

Just after 8:00, police found him dead, wedged under his taxi-cab, which was tilted on its side across a drain on Seashore Drive - the same street where the Prime Minister lives - and which is also home to the iconic Belize sign.

But, the persons or persons who killed Ampomah and caused him to crash weren’t worrying about where it happened.  They just stabbed him to death while he was driving, and then fled after he crashed.

Police today told us what they have on Ampomah’s murder:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"Also last night, just after 8 p.m., police visited Seashore Drive, where upon arrival, they observed a vehicle, and under the vehicle, a male person was seen lying motionless. The male person was pulled out of the vehicle, and upon police inspection of the body, he had several apparent stab wounds to the body. The person was identified as that of Nigerian National Emmanuel Ampomah, of a Chetumal Street address. What police gathered so far is that the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Emmanuel, was driving on Seashore Drive along with 2 other male persons inside of the vehicle, when the stab wounds were inflicted upon him. He was taken to the hospital, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital."

"Have investigators established a motive so far?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, we are trying to ascertain if robbery is a possible motive, as we cannot tell you exactly if all of his belongings were with him. We are trying to make contact with the family members, to ensure if anything is missing from him at the moment."
