19-year-old Mainor Sagastume, a construction worker from Belmopan, is at the Belize Central Prison after he was taken to court today for allegedly committing sexual abuse against a 13-year-old girl.
Last week Friday, the minor and her mother went to the police and reported that she ran away from her mother's house in Belmopan, and she went to Belize City with Sagastume. She says that he took her to an unpainted, and unfinished concrete bungalow house on University Drive and had intercourse with her on 2 occasions, July 3rd, and July 19th.
Police investigated her complaint and they charged Sagastume with 2 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse. He was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson, who explained to him that she will not take any plea from him because these offenses are indictable. She also told him that she cannot offer him any bail, and she remanded him to prison until September 30th.
