Elderly Farmer Murdered

Turning now to crime news, there's been another murder - this time in the Maya Mopan area outside Belmopan. An elderly farmer was found dead, three days after his last contact with his daughter. This morning at the crime scene in Maya Mopan, she told the media that when she couldn't reach him on Saturday night, she had a portent that he had been killed:..,.

"My dad use to call me every day in the morning and in the night before he goes to sleep and on Saturday at 1pm he call me and then he say he will call me in the night, but he never did call me. Then in the night around 11pm I was dreaming that someone was killing my dad, so I got up and went to the bathroom and I drank some water then I went to sleep again and I continued with the same dream that reach to a home and I saw my dad and that there was a wake for my dad and that I start to cry. In the morning I got up, it was raining and I call my dad and he never answer me. It was Sunday morning around 7:30 I call him."

And he didn't answer - because someone had killed 65 year old farmer, Porfilio Nino and buried him here:

"Right now I reach and they found the body and it's my dad."

Reporter
"He was in a shallow grave, tell us about that? I know it's hard, but did you felt that they murdered your dad?"

Yanira Rivas
"They killed my dad. I think they killed him with a machete. I think they hurt him on his head."

She said her father had known enemies.

Yanira Rivas
"Yes, because I told him dad please why don't you sell here and let go to Valley of Peace and you will live with me, I will take care of you and he said yes, that he will just finish all the plants he have and he will go back with me. On Friday I said please dad lets go and he said yes baby, I am not afraid. I only have 2 enemies and he told me the names of the 2 enemies. He said he is not afraid of anything, because he has his dog. When reach at his home on Sunday, the little was trembling on his bed."

"Do you know if he left any type of signs to show who?"

Yanira Rivas
"Yes I found it and gave it to the police, a letter."

"They found a small letter that he left here on the farm that pointed on someone that if something happens to him, that person will be responsible."

Yanira Rivas
"I pray to God to help me find those persons who killed him. He was 65 years old and he was a good person."

As you heard, police have suspects based on the warnings from the deceased.

Nino was killed on his farm. He was well known in Valley Of Peace and Maya Mopan.
