Family Of Five InJured In Accident
posted (July 25, 2019)
Tonight a family of 5 from the Toledo District is recovering from injuries they suffered in a serious accident just outside Dangriga Town this morning. And, a police checkpoint is being given partial blame.

At around 8:20, police had a checkpoint set up at around mile 3 on the Stann Creek Valley Road. The cops spotted a black SUV speeding toward them, and when it did, the vehicle collided into the guard rail and flipped over. The impact then caused the occupants of the vehicle to be flung from it. They likely were not wearing seat belts.

39-year-old Pablo Rash, an electrician from San Isidro Village in Toledo was driving a Mitsubishi Montero SUV. In the vehicle with him were his wife, 35-year-old Dolores Rash, and their 3 children: 12-year-old Jyrki Rash, 10-year-old Cailyn Rash, and 4-year-old Harrison Rash.

Rash told police that rounding the curve, he saw the checkpoint appear, and he started applying brakes to stop just in front of it. But, he lost control, and the vehicle then lurched toward the guard rail, made contact and flipped on its left side.

The injuries to those who were flung out of the vehicle are quite serious, and Pablo Rash and Jyrki Rash had to be airlifted to Belize City while Cailyn Rash was later transported to the KHMH via ambulance.

We'll have an update on their condition tomorrow.
