Dara Dread Rides Again
posted (July 25, 2019)
Grassroots philanthropist Joel "Dara" Robinson has been featured many times on this newscast. He leads the feeding program in which he fundraises annually to provide for needy primary school children from Belize City. He and his team feed these children so that they can better focus on their schoolwork, instead of worrying where their next meal will come from.

He depends on generous donations to keep the program running, and this Sunday, it's his 8th Annual Ride for Hunger fundraiser.

Dara and Kwame Scott stopped by our office this afternoon to tell us why they need you to support the ride:

Kwame Scott- Assisting Dara
"This Sunday, Dara's Feeding Program present its 8th Annual Hunger Awareness Ride. 8 years ago, Dara decided that he needed to add one more fundraiser to his efforts, to sustain the feeding program. And he had this idea of a social ride that would be different from the others, in that it would be a reggae ride, big truck, big sound system, and all the riders stream out behind it. 8 years later, we're expecting 2, 3 hopefully 400 riders, all riding together in unity. It's not a race; it is a ride. It is a 40-mile, and it is to raise funds. So, registration is only $10 per person. You register at the Belize Civic Center this Sunday, starting at 5 a.m. The ride leaves at 6:30 a.m. From the Civic Center, we go across the Belcan Bridge and make a left onto the Philip Goldson Highway. We travel all the way through Ladyville to the Hattieville Burrell Boom Road, where we make a left. We have a 10-minute stop at the CDS Gas Station, and we continue on to Hattieville. We make a left onto the George Price Highway, where we'll make our second and final stop at the Mile 8 Community. We then head to Belize City, via the George Price Highway, Burton Canal Bridge, through the Lord Ridge Cemetery, and we finish right back at the Civic Center, where we started. There will be snacks available for all those who are doing the ride. And please, we ask that everyone register."

"The ride, every year, we see more numbers, and more people are registering. So, every year more and more people are catching on and coming out. And people - besides doing it to help the program, people come out and do it to get exercise for the day. You're looking at almost 4-hours of riding."

As you heard, registration for the ride starts at 5 a.m. on Sunday at the Belize City Civic Center. The ride moves off at around 6:30 a.m.
