A 41 year old man was killed last night in an accident at mile 21 on the Hummingbird Highway.
Two salesmen from Orange Walk were returning from Punta Gorda in a Ford Escape when the SUV had a front end blowout, and flew off the road in front of Hummingbird Hershey.
Adar Adad Awe was flung from the vehicle and died on the spot, while his passenger, 27 year old Dario Melendez experienced only minor injury.

"He was coming from PG. He was coming and where they are fixing the road, he felt the vehicle slip and I think it turned right there. Yes, I think it turned several times and from there he blocked out because I think he received a blow to his head. He blocked out and doesn't remember anything until this morning, I think. When he woke up he told me that he was lost. He didn't know what happened. We just want to thank God that he is okay because we thought that- the way the vehicle looked, we saw glimpses of pictures- we thought that he died or something really bad happened. I just want to thank God because he is okay. He fractured his hip and his left shoulder was fractured and I think he received a cut on his head and had stitches on his foot. Apart from that he is okay. The majority of the time that he goes to PG he always meets him there or they stay at the hotel. But he knows him because he is a salesman and the other person is a sales man as well. A part from that I don't know much about him. He lives in Orange Walk as well."
A post mortem examination shows that Awe died of multiple blunt force traumatic injuries due to a road traffic accident. Notably - he is politician Gaspar Vega's nephew. His brother Amir Awe died in 2011 - also at the age of 41 - when the SUV he was driving flipped off the Northern Highway.
