Cops Shot Out His Back Window
posted (July 26, 2019)
We have been following the Alysson Major shooting death case since it happened last week Wednesday. Police shot the 36 year old in the head in downtown Belize City as he tried to escape a pursing patrol.

Well our next story is someone similar but fortunately, this time, no one was hurt. Jasmine street resident Brandon Mejia was on his way home when he says an officer from a police mobile shot at his car, piercing his rear windshield and almost hitting him and his friends. Here is his account.

Brandon Mejia, Jasmine Street Resident
"Approximately around 1:30, minutes to 2:00, I was dropping off a friend. We were coming from the Allyson Major basketball whatever so we was heading back from the function, not even a function, it was just a tribute so what happen is we drive down Mahogany Street, we drive on the street in front of complex building and the person live directly in front of a lane so I drop of the person."

"So approaching back to Mahogany street, turning unto to Mahogany street going to my direction where I live on Jasmine street before I reach Jasmine street, I am not seeing any light, actually we are in traffic so I am not paying attention to no light behind me, no siren, no light, no indicator, no blinking of no light, no sign on the front saying that it is police trying to pull me over, coming now, I put on my indicator, turn down Jasmine street where I live on and the Lake I Baptist church or how they call it the Southside church, that is where the brothers burst the shot out the back glass, bullet pass my head side."

"Literally the friends who I was with, which in is two persons and then the person is the back seat actually say you long too boy, let me go on the other side and good thing he went on the other side because he would have gotten the impact on the back of his head so now when police burst the shot, the person on the front said let us stop, this is not normal, so when I stop the police did not come out, I am first person outside of the vehicle, they still no reach outside yet and that is when they come out now and say put your hand up. I am looking at the glass and I am checking myself and I know it is a shot they burst at us so check and see if I got shot because you would not feel it I right away."

"They charge me because I do not want to give..oh we ended up at hospital too because they want to take a urine sample which in I said I can't do anything because my lawyer informed me to not do anything if he is not present and I am following what he says."

Courtney Weatherburne:
"So what exactly did they charge you for?"

Brandon Mejia
"They charge me because I didn't take the urine sample and for driving recklessly so I have to appear in court next week Thursday."

"I do not agree with the charge but they done print it out so what else I could do, I have to accept the form, to accept the print out."

Courtney Weatherburne:
"So what you are saying is that the police were following you and shot at your vehicle for no reason?"

Brandon Mejia
"Well I am saying for no reason and they are talking about a tint thing but the understanding I get is that they give a warning before, you get a warning before you get the tint from your vehicle."

Courtney Weatherburne:
"So you think that maybe that was the reason they were trying to get your attention to tell you about the tint?"

Brandon Mejia
"That is no kind of attention to pull someone over for at tint."

"I am not here to burn fire on no police but call a spade a spade you wrong big man.".

Mejia stresses that he did not know police was pursuing him and says he only saw headlights behind him. Mejia is contemplating making a complaint at the Professional Standards Branch.
