Woman Murdered By Jealous Ex In Griga
posted (July 29, 2019)
It was a terrible and traumatic weekend in Belize - where 7 relatively young people lost their lives abruptly.

Two 22 year old's, a 21 year old, and an 18 year old were killed in a single traffic accident.

And then, a 26 year old was killed in a construction accident.

And then, a 31 year old died while trying out for the coast guard.

And, a 41 year old woman was murdered in a domestic dispute.

And that's where we start tonight - in Dangriga.

Yesterday morning, 41 year old Geraldine Flowers was at her home in that southern town getting ready for work when her ex-common law husband showed up. They got into an argument and he shot her dead. He also attacked Flowers' cousin who was staying the night. It was a bloody scene and certainly a tragic end for Flowers who was just trying to make a better life for herself and her kids in Dangriga. Courtney Weatherburne has more details.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Geraldine Flowers lived on the same block where she worked. She looked after an elderly couple in the upstairs flat of this house. She was to report to work at 7:00 yesterday morning but she never showed up.

Her ex-common law husband, allegedly shot and killed her inside her home yesterday morning around 5:30. He also allegedly shot and stabbed Flowers' cousin Samuel Reid who was visiting for the weekend.

But he survived the attack. According to reports, Flowers and this ex had broken up and he moved out the house a couple weeks ago, but he returned yesterday to see Flowers.

They got into an argument in the bedroom and he shot her, Reid was asleep in another bedroom and he came out to assist Flowers. There was a struggle between the two men and the ex grabbed a knife and stabbed Reid more than once. A neighbor says she was awakened by the commotion.

Voice of: Neighbor
"I hear a noise like a banging noise and I was asleep so I jumped out of my bed and I walk in the living room and I find my son in the living room because he heard the same noise so we are looking through our front window to see if we see anything and we didn't see anything and a couple seconds after that we heard 3 more shots, hard and he say mommy that is gunshot."

"My son walk outside and walk up the lane and he say when he walk up the lane he say he look on the side and he say he see the burglar bar for the neighbor house open so he run back home and he say somebody is hollering for help from the house so he say hurry call the police."

The police showed up shortly after.

According to neighbors, when Flowers and this ex turned murder suspect were living together at the house they would hear their relentless arguing.

Voice of: Neighbor
"Well basically every Sunday that would be something we wake up to Sunday morning, routine, arguments and we would hear them and other neighbors hear them too because you know when we would talk we would say you hear so and so, so other neighbors would call the police and the police would come to the house and then sometimes when they come to the house no one would come to the police."

And the police were aware of their abusive relationship. Our information is that Flowers took out a restraining order against him. Although they were no longer together, he still kept coming around and threatening her and none of the charges would stick.

ACP Joseph Myvette, Head, NCIB
"Yes she has made several reports against her ex-common law husband and charges were proferred but I am also aware that she had went and she had withdrew some of those charges."

According to residents, the incessant bickering and abuse and his aggressive behavior towards neighbors had them on edge. Now with her murder, the New Site area of Dangriga will never be the same.

Voice of: Neighbor
"He is very, I don't know how to describe it but when he just moved here he lost a dog and he was threatening people like if I find my dog at your house of if I see my dog anywhere I will hurt you and thing like that."

"We never have nothing for the years, I practically grow up in this neighborhood, for the years we live around here we never had nothing like this, people argue, they relationship broke up and people separate but no think like this so violent like and our neighborhood is a quite neighborhood so to let something like this happen everyone is in a fright you know."

Flowers leaves behind 2 teenaged kids. Flowers had been living in Mango Creek and later moved to the New Site Dangriga home. She had been living in that house for about 4 months.

We note that she had a deceased husband, Kevin Flowers, who was also shot and killed. That happened in Mahogany Heights in April 2015. He was gunned down on his way to work. 7news had gotten an off-camera interview with Geraldine Flowers at the time of the murder. Now as it relates to Samuel Reid, our information is that he is in a stable condition and is responding.

As it relates to the case, police are looking for the ex-common law husband who is at large. Police say they found the knife on the scene. They didn't find the gun.
