Calling All Officers
posted (July 29, 2019)
Today at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, the Commissioner of police called his second officer's conference since he took over in January.

The 123 officers meaning those above the rank of Sargent - many of them recently promoted - were in session for the entire day in basically a professional development workshop.

The Commissioner told us more:

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"It is important that as senior members of the Belize Police Department that we meet on a regular basis to be able to discuss our strategies and to see what we can do to enhance the level of service that we offer to the public. You would know that the police department is service oriented and we at the senior level been harping to our people that we need to become more professional and efficient and effective in the work that we do. This is one way that we reach to our senior ranks to be able to ensure that we direct them in the direction that we want the department to go."

"Who all is speaking today and about what?"

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"We try to invite other stakeholders to come in and have talk with our officers and senticize them in terms of areas that they need to be familiar with and this morning we had the Humans Rights Commission, Mr. Leo Bradley as well as Ms. Cynthia Pitts. They did an excellent presentation on human rights and then this afternoon we have Mose Hyde who will be dealing with the police and the media and we also have representative from the Ministry of Health that will be dealing with the issue with mental health and policing. I am sure that what ever has been and will be imparted to the officers for the rest of the day today that it will be well received and it will see an improvement in terms of how our officers interact on a daily basis with the public."
