The village council elections finished over the past weekend in Cayo - and both the PUP and the UDP are claiming to have won a majority of the more than one thousand available seats.
Now, the thing is, village councils are not supposed to be overtly political - and many times, persons who may be loyal to the blue or red run as independents on mixed slates. This is due to family and community ties in those villages, which sometimes transcend political tribalism.
But, the tribes have spoken, and the PUP said yesterday that it won the majority of the councils in 97 villages to the UDP's 75, and 690 seats compared to the UDP's 507.
The UDP Jon the other hand says, the PUP have the math all wrong the ruling party said that of the 1,323 seats being contested the UDP won the majority of 629 seats as compared to 625 seats won by the Opposition.
