The Future of Education

The guest speaker for today's Digi scholarship program was The Deputy Chief Education Officer Neulin Villanueva. She discussed her ministry's mandate to increase access to all levels of education for all Belizeans and thanked DIGI as well as other corporate partners for their help in providing access to secondary schools for deserving students.

She also discussed G.O.B's own commitment to the same:

"We are indeed grateful for the assistance of our social and corporate partners such as Digi and many others whose community mindedness and financial contribution make this goal a little bit more achievable. If we are successful in our plans, though in a few years there may be much less need for ceremonies such as these. You see in accordance with --- declaration an elaboration on the sustainable development goal number four, Belize and 120 other countries have committed to the provision of 12 years of free, publicly funded, inclusive, equitable, quality primary and secondary education. Furthermore this declaration states that provision is to be ensured without discrimination."

There are 308 primary schools and 59 secondary schools countrywide.
