Elderly Mexican Woman Murdered In Remote Rural Area
posted (August 14, 2019)

There was a murder in a remote part of Sandhill Village last night, and this time, the victim is a 69-year-old woman.

At around 4:00 yesterday, police responded to reports of a disturbance at the far end of the Salt Creek Road. When they arrived at this private property, they found the body of an elderly woman identified as Ofelia Hernandez Cruz, a Mexican.

Reports from the residents of Salt Creek Road is that she was beaten to death. Neighbors heard the sounds of screams coming from the house where she and her common-law husband live, and that’s when they called police.

We are told that Cruz’s common-law would leave on errands, and when he was away, she would be on the property by herself. That’s exactly what happened yesterday, when he went to buy animal food for the small farm they maintain on the private property. When he returned, she was already dead. It is not known if there was any robbery or theft.

Neighbors - who are now scared for their own safety - told us that the couple came to live on that private property about 13 years ago.  He took a job a a caretaker for the landowner, and they’ve been staying there ever since.

Cruz’s neighbors say that she had a very pleasant personality, and was often seen tending to her brace of ducks that she raised on the property.

The residents of the Salt Creek Road who we spoke to were shocked that a killer or killers would target this elderly woman.

Of note is that Cruz and her common-law husband keep a large number of dogs, but our news team noticed that they were all tied up when we visited the property today.
