More Breathalyzers for Police
posted (August 14, 2019)

And while that donation went to San Pedro police, in the city, Police received 10 more breathalyzers today. Now, over the years the police have received a few donations of breathalyzers, but today, no one could say for sure what became of those.

But, still, they were ready to say that these new ones will be sent to drunk driving accident-prone areas in the south, north and city. Here is more from the handing over ceremony at the Raccoon street police station:

Edward Broaster - Deputy Compol, Operations & Crime
"It's always a great pleasure when we have civic minded citizens who feel obligated in assisting the police in the prevention in the loss of lives on our highways and across this country and this public/private partnership that I've always enjoyed with Christopher Coye yield again a handsome donation of 10 breathalysers that will enable the police department to do test on drivers to ensure they're not under the influence of drugs or alcohol driving on our highways and creating havoc and taking away the lives or loved ones. So on behalf of the Belize Police Department, the Commissioner of Police and the ministry, thank Christopher Coye for this wonderful donation. We will ensure that we deploy these breathalysers in the areas we know we have data where we have much drunk driving and a propensity for drivers to be under the influence especially in the south, in the north and in the city."

Christopher Coye - Donor
"Why breathalysers, I mean you see the news and so often, so regularly the road traffic accidents and there's question as to the cause of these road traffic accidents but certainly drunk driving is a significant factor that plays into this, so we want to see how can contribute towards reducing the prevalence of that kind of incident."

The cost of the donation is $4,000.

The last donation off Breathalyzers on our records dates back to September of 2018, when the Taiwanese were scheduled to donate 30 of them.
