Teenagers Pounced On Old Man
posted (August 15, 2019)
Two teenagers were arraigned today for beating up an elderly man in the streets. They are 18 year old Tyrique Quinn Smith and 19-year-old Prince Alex Copious. The victim is 63-year-old Lizbrown Ivan Sydney Flowers. He reported to police that on Tuesday, at around 6:30 he was walking on LaCroix Boulevard, when the two young men attacked him for no reason and beat him up badly.

The duo appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett where they were both read a single charge of wounding. They pleaded not guilty and prosecutor, Corporal Christopher Smith had heavy objections to bail being granted to the teens. Prosecutor Smith submitted to the court that the act allegedly committed by the duo is cold and calculated and that a message needs to be sent to the public that persons cannot just take the law into their own hands and start to beat up on the elderly citizens for no reason.

He told the court witnesses have come forwarded and assisted police in their investigation which led to the teenagers' arrest.

When asked in court why they should be granted bail, Copious said he only acted when the elderly man hit his friend first then missed and caught him. Smith also alleged that the elderly man had stolen money from him four days prior to the incident.

But that didn't convince the Magistrate and she denied them bail. The teenagers were remanded until next week Wednesday, when bail will be considered.
