It's one of Belize biggest companies, and, now, BEL has its first in-house counsel.
Former 7News reporter, Dawn Sampson-Nunez - just back from the UK as a trained attorney will now take up that post. She has also been named as the General Manager of Legal and Corporate Services.
A release from the utility company says, "Sampson recently completed her Post Graduate Diploma Bar Professional Training Course at Northumbria University in the UK." While Sampson-Nunez was called to the BAR in the UK on July 25, 2019, the system in the UK is such that after being Called, you then need to complete a period of pupilage before you can practice in the UK. Sampson-Nunez did not pursue a pupilage and so does not hold a practicing certificate to practice in the UK. Her choice was to return home to Belize to pursue her career in law after successfully completing the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and being called to the BAR in the UK.
