A Chance To Study Yoga In India
posted (August 16, 2019)
Are you passionate about practicing Yoga? Maybe you have dreams of traveling to India, the land where the practice originated. Belizeans now have an opportunity to travel there and immerse themselves in the yogic lifestyle. The consulate of India in collaboration with Rhythm of change Belize is offering full scholarships to study YOGA at, SVYASA, a yoga research university in India. We spoke to R.O.C's chairwoman and one of the scholarship recipients from last year about the opportunity and the experience being offered.

Michelle Williams, Founder and Chairperson of R.O.C. Belize NGO
"It's a wonderful opportunity for anyone that has a desire to expand their knowledge of Yoga. It is a fully paid scholarship so, their airfare is paid, their room and board is covered and they also give them a stipend when they go out on day trips so that they can purchase memorabilia and also when they come back they have the advantage of coming back into a paid experience."

Vianey Blades, Exercise physiologist & Yoga Instructor
"Last year I got the opportunity to travel across the world to go to a prestigious university in India. I had no expectations of what the journey would have been like and I honestly feel like that was the best thing for me to do. I went there with an open heart and took in all that I needed to take in for my own personal development and transformation. The people there are so welcoming; they are truly a representation of what unity would feel like. We got to experience yoga through the Indian culture."

"I would definitely encourage anyone who has the inkling to learn more about yoga to definitely apply as long as you have one month to dedicate to yourself to dedicate that time for your growth I would honestly say do it. Do it with a full heart do it because you know that at the end of that month, you'll be a completely transformed person from the inside out and you will be able to be a light to people in Belize, in your community who desperately need it. We need Yoga teachers in Belize."

Michelle Williams, Founder and Chairperson of R.O.C. Belize NGO
"So I would recommend as many people as you want. We want as many people as possible to apply. They prefer to have yoga teachers but they also will encourage people that are just yoga practitioners to apply as long as you have a passport and your willing to fly and take a month out of your year. There's one course every month until next year so there are many many courses being offered."

"There are people from all walks of life. From all age ranges, from all religious preferences spiritual preference and it really compliments the idea that yoga does not really represent one religion or anyone spiritual path it can compliment whatever your belief is and that's something that I think is really important because there's this perception that it's you know one way and really it's all ways."

Upon their return, students have the opportunity to teach for a time through Rhythm of change before hopefully going out to develop their own community classes. If you'd like to learn more about this scholarship and how to apply you can send a request for info to info@yogahealsbelize.com
