Brazen, Broad Daylight, Bus Stop Murder in Hattieville
posted (August 19, 2019)
A security guard was murdered this evening in Hattieville. It has shocked villagers - because Clyde Kevin Hyde was at the bus stop - on the highway in the center of the village at around 4:00 this evening when he was shot as many as 7 times.

His sister - who is the village chairlady says it may be a case of mistaken identity by gunmen not from the village. We spoke to her half hour ago after the police moved the body:

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"Well I was at the centre with the kids practicing for the upcoming carnival and one of the kids ran in there and said that they are calling me, because somebody had gotten shot by the bus shed. When I came I see my brother down there. He is not a person that gives trouble. He goes and come to work and barely talk to anyone, but I think its mistaken identity."

Reporter
"Was he under the shed alone?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"He comes out every evening to go to work around the same time."

Reporter
"Do you believe he was targeted?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"No, mistaken identity."

Reporter
"Can you tell us what kind of person he was?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"Provoking, idle and just like to run jokes."

Reporter
"Does it infuriate you that the police station being just a stone throw away?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"I believe the police could serve the community better, because the police is a stone throw away. If you hear a gun shot, you are not far, you could just in your vehicle and see who shot my brother and you would see who is running, because the culprit was on foot."

Reporter
"It was one person?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"I heard it was 2 hispanic persons."

Reporter
"Do you believe they are from the area?"

Sylvana Barrow, Sister of Deceased
"I dont believe they are from Hattieville, because everyone in Hattieville knows my brother and they know he is not a person that gives trouble."

He was waiting at the bus stop for his commute to his job as a security guard at the Belize City council,

Hyde becomes the second brother the village chairlady has lost in three months.

We'll have more on this tomorrow.
