Man Was Pushed Out of Bus, Run Over
posted (August 20, 2019)
Tonight, 30-year-old Carlos Peña Jr., a resident of Cristo Rey Village in Corozal, is at the KHMH recovering from broken ribs and other injuries. That's after he was run over a bus on Saturday.

Pena was attempting to board a bus at around 7:00 that morning at the village bus stop. His family tells us that he was walking into the bus when someone inexplicably shoved him down the steps.

The allegation is that the driver then moved off, dragging him along until he ended up under the bus. Today at the KHMH, his father, Carlos Sr. lamented that no one is being held responsible for what happened:

Carlos Pena Sr. - Father of Accident Victim
"I was told that he wanted to take the bus, and he had 5 dollars in his hand, and somebody pushed him."

Reporter
"Push him?"

Carlos Pena Sr.
"Yes, someone pushed him from the bus, and it looked like he never let go from the mirror, and the bus dragged him down. He went under it."

Reporter
"So, he was trying to board the bus, he was pushed and..."

Carlos Pena Sr.
"Something like that I heard, you know. But the thing is I only want justice. Let the police find out exactly what happened."

"He's not an animal that you just leave thrown away in the street, and you forget him to die. I only want the people who did this, let him come forward and pay all of the damage that he caused to my boy. Because it will cost a lot of money to put him back on his feet. 10 ribs broken, that's a lot of ribs to break for a man, and he won't be able to stand up like us again. I am only asking the law or Belize, bring the man to justice."

Reporter
"So, somebody pushed him out maliciously?"

Carlos Pena Sr.
"That's what I heard. And the bus never did stop when it knocked him down. It continued and it left."

The family tells us that as far as they are aware, police still haven't started to investigate the incident. Police have not recorded any formal statement from Peña or his loved ones. We can add that they have not issued any report to the press.
