Still No Arrests in Hattieville Bus Stop Slaying
posted (August 22, 2019)

Earlier this week, we told you about the murder of 47-year-old Clive Kevin Hyde in his home village of Hattieville.

On Monday evening at 4:00, this working man was in his security guard’s uniform, and he was on the way to his job site at the Belize City Council. He was at the village bus stop, when two gunmen pulled up, shot him multiple time and ran off.

His family believes that his killers mistook him for someone else, and they also criticized the reaction time of the Hattieville Police, since the station is only a stone’s throw away from the crime scene.

Police told us what they know so far:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head NCIB
"What the police know so far is that shortly before 4 p.m., whilst the deceased was waiting for a bus, he was approached by 2 Hispanic males persons who fired shots at him, causing the aforementioned injuries, thereafter making good their escape in the bushes across the highway. In regards to that police are on the ground, conducting an investigation, and following several leads, and at the same point, seeking 2 Hispanic males who were in the area."

"The family has asserted strongly that they believe that he was killed as a consequence of mistaken identity. Have you all established why he was targeted?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"At this point in time, we have still not seen be able to establish a motive, however, as I mentioned before, we are looking at several leads."

Reporter
"The family also raised this concern that the bus stop where this happened is right in an eye-seeing distance of the Hattieville Police Station. The concern was, what happened with the rapid response?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"What we know is that upon the shots being fired, the police responded shortly thereafter. And I must also mention that if you are familiar with the terrain, you will see that there is a wooden building, I believe, which houses a restaurant, between the view of those in the police station, and those who were at the bus stop."

Reports say police were fired upon by unknown men in the village while investigating this crime the following day.
