Cops Following Up On Bus Accident
posted (August 22, 2019)

Today's press briefing also gave us an opportunity to ask about a traffic accident has left 30-year-old Carlos Pena hospitalized with multiple broken ribs.

You'll remember him as the resident of Cristo Rey Village in Corozal. On Saturday, he was at the village bus stop waiting for a bus to get to work. One did stop, and he reportedly tried to board it, but someone from inside pushed him out, and he ended up under it. The bus then ran him over, severely injuring his abdomen, and left him with 9 broken ribs.

You'll remember his father's outrage that his ordeal wasn't being given any priority, and so, we asked police about that complaint today:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"I know that yes, they have a victim from the Corozal District. He is Carlos Pena. He has several injuries to his body, due to a road traffic accident. I cannot tell you exactly when it happened, but he is in a critical but stable condition at this moment."

Reporter
"Has police commenced an investigation, sir, because when the family had spoken with us about it, their main complaint was that they didn't feel that police were giving it enough priority?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

"Well, I cannot go into details, because I do not have them at hand. But I know that I have been communicating with Corozal police, reference the condition of the male person. And I know that they are following up on information."

Pena is currently still hospitalized in a critical but stable condition.
