The Southern Regional Hospital Is Sick
posted (August 23, 2019)
The Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga is becoming a real pain for resident sin the south.

The level of service, and the equipment have been failing for a while now; the problems at the morgue are well documented.

But, the complaints extended well beyond that - and now, the PUP standard bearer for that area Dr. LOUIS Zabaneh combined many disgruntled groups to stage a protest today. Here's what he said it was about:

Voice of: Dr. Lewis Zabaneh, PUP Standard Bearer - Dangriga
"This evening we had a peaceful demonstration that was organized by the Southern Workers Union. We had the participation of members of the local Belize National Teachers Union and also the Public Service Union. It has been for months and months that the people of Dangriga and the south in general have been suffering from very poor services at the Southern Regional Hospital and no positive response from central government to put in the adequate and necessary investment into the hospital. The morgue has been one of those areas that has been totally neglected and that's what the citizen have been so frustrated about and what led to this demonstration. So the people are calling on central government to please stop this gross neglect and to put a new morgue in place and to also look at the other needs of the Southern Regional. we need to have qualified doctors, we need to have enough nurses, we need to have enough supplies, we need to look at other areas that need equipment in the hospital. The people of Dangriga and the people of the south pay their taxes like everybody else and its time now for this neglect to stop."

The Ministry of Health had no comment today.
