From the Dr. Pitts' Disappointment to A New Senatorial Appointment
posted (August 26, 2019)
Two weeks ago, the PUP made an abortive attempt to appoint Dr. Candice Pitts as a PUP Senator to replace Valerie Woods. They found out - after sending the letter of recommendation for appointment - that Pitts cannot be a Senator and an elected Belize City Councillor at the same time. And so, the PUP is now fixing the error, after pretending that it never happened.

In a press release sent today, the PUP said that Opposition Leader John Briceno returned to work full-time after taking 3-weeks' sick leave to recover from his very serious traffic accident on August second.

From there, the release frames it nicely, quote: "Upon his resumption of duties and having consulted with leaders in the Party, the Leader of the Opposition is pleased to announce that he is recommending the appointment of Isabel G. Bennett and Dr. Louis Zabaneh as Opposition Senators."

Nicely put, except it was the same leader Briceno who signed the letter of appointment, turned disappointment for Dr. Pitts 12 days ago.

So, today's release adds that he he will now send another letter to the Governor-General announcing the appointment, in time for the Senate meeting on Friday.

The PUP press release adds, quote, "... The Party Leader wishes to thank the Hon. Paul Thompson and Hon. Valerie Woods for their work, and is confident that their replacements will represent the Party and Nation in like matter." End quote.

Zabaneh and Bennett will join Senator Michel Chebat, who replaced Eamon Courtenay as lead Senator.
