How to Stay Safe During September
posted (August 29, 2019)

September Celebrations kick off this weekend with the Belikin Bash music festival. But while you and thousands of others bash, more boots are needed on the ground to police September events. Police told us what they are doing to make the events safe and enjoyable for all, and they shared a few tips to help you celebrate without incident.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - O.C., C.I.B.
"Yes there’s additional police officers that have been deployed to several events that will be taking place within the city, and also if you notice there are special operations that will be taking effect every day at Belize City to combat any crime or prevent any criminal activity during the September celebrations. They are to insure that their vehicles are properly secured and that they do not have any valuables inside of your vehicle. Most of the time people are looking for personal items that are left inside for example: cell phones, laptops, and even firearms. People have that tendency of locking their firearms inside their vehicle and then leave the vehicle."

"So, we advise them not to keep these valuables inside of the vehicle and always have your vehicle at eyesight around some business or some places near that someone can be looking at the vehicle. If you are consuming alcoholic beverages you cannot be in possession of a firearm because it’s an offense if police stops and they suspect that you’re under the influence."
