Man Dies After Night of Birthday Celebration
posted (August 30, 2019)

27 year old Rasheed Pollard - celebrated his birthday yesterday - but lived less than three hours into his 28th year; the father of two died in an accident just before 3:00 this morning.

It happened at mile 4 on the Phillip Goldson highway. He was driving back into the city after a night out celebrating his birthday with family and friends in Ladyville.

But something went wrong and he slammed into a lamp-post which caused his vehicle to flip.

A postmortem later revealed that Pollard died from traumatic shock due to multiple blunt force trauma. Earlier today his aunt told us how terribly this sudden death has devastated his family.

Bernadine Lewis - Aunt of the deceased
"It was his birthday and he was out with family and friends, and I got a call this morning about 3:30 when my daughter called me crying and said mom come. And when I got outside she said Rasheed is dead and I said no, it can’t be not my darling, no my baby. And she said yes ma come, and I said somebody please take me to the hospital. We went to the hospital and I waited there, they still had him on the road because it happened at about mile 3 or 4 on the northern highway and they brought him in. I saw him and it wasn’t a dream. He was gone. The last thing he said to me last week was: darling broke me out cause you no ah see me for my birthday or talk to me and I said no we will see each other and we’ll get a drink but I never got to see him not even to say happy birthday I did my post yesterday evening and I said Happy Birthday to him and have a blast and enjoy your earth day. And he did, he passed away right after his birthday."

"Rasheed was the most loving fun person. Rasheed would walk into a room and light up the room and make everybody smiles. He knows how to bring people together; he knows how to make them smile. Rasheed is a very outgoing person, a people’s person, whereas he works with BTL and he was well loved there. Rasheed is a person that would come and make you smile. For me he stole my heart from the day he was born and know he breaks it, but what can I say life goes on."

"He was the only child of my little sister, and what I can say is we have to be here for her and be strong for her. I know he broke me down this morning, but now I gotta be strong back and see how this will go from here. My kids used to say mom summer is not for us because we had so many losses at the beginning of summer and now at the end of summer Rasheed went. I could say that he’s in a happy place. Rasheed died peacefully and happy."

Pollard leaves behind 2 children, a daughter and a son.
