Mexican Cyclist Banned for Belize Race
posted (August 30, 2019)

And while those teenaged phenoms light the way to a stellar football future, the news continues to be bad in cycling.

Last night we told you how Belize’s National Road Champion, elite cyclist Nissan Arana has been suspended for four years for use of a banned substance.

Well, tonight, there is news that another top rider, this one a Mexican who’s always a contender in Belizean races - has also been suspended.

Mexican Donizeti Vasquez finished fourth in this year’s Krem New Year’s Day Cycling Classic. A sample taken after the race tested positive for Dexamethasone.  It’s a type of steroid medication with anti-inflammatory effects that is usually used to aid an athlete’s rehabilitation.

With that, Vasquez has been stripped of his fourth place finish - which ironically, was right after Nissan Arana.  Ron Vasquez will now take that fourth place spot.  Vasquez has been suspended for 2 years commencing 31st May, 2019.
