posted (September 3, 2019)
And so, how can you help the people of the Bahamas? Well, government has taken the first step. Cabinet today agreed to make a contribution of $100,000 US dollars to to assist in the recovery efforts.

And, for the general public, the Belize Red Cross today launched the Hurricane Dorian Red Cross Appeal in Belize.

The Director General Lily Bowman says you should give from your heart for our CARICOM brothers and sisters, because, one day, it could be us:

Lily Bowman, Executive Director, Red Cross
"We are all a part of the Caribbean we're all brothers and sisters and we're all at risk of the threat of hurricanes one day it might be Belize. We might be desperately in need just like they will be very soon. So I just feel like us acting on their behalf is just showing that solidarity, and of course strengthening the bond that we have as Caribbean people, where we can cross borders to assist, and where we can assist not only physical and in kind but with economic support."

"Go down into your pockets. Strike your breast, shake up the heart, and give generously. You know we really need to feel that solidarity as a people because it's not a matter of if Belize is in the situation it's a matter of when, and we would want out brothers and sisters to do the same for us."

"For now because of the geographic situation and it's not easy to ship things into a country that has been affected by a hurricane probably ports close, airports close not to mention it's costly too. We are just accepting cash which is easier to transfer by wire. The funds will be transferred to the Bahamian Red Cross and it will be a contribution towards their plan of action in their response operations."

"We are doing our part and I know that Belize always has our back. The international federation has always assisted Belize when we have been affected in past disasters and we just hope that we can now reciprocate and give our support."

Cash donations can be deposited to the Belize Red Cross appeal accounts at any branch of the following commercial banks throughout the country:
Heritage Bank Ltd. - A/C # 1082665
The Belize Bank Ltd. - A/C # 135648010120001
Scotia Bank Belize - A/C # 9133246
