Bahamas, Mounting Death Toll, Island Decimated
posted (September 4, 2019)
"Apocalyptic" - that's the word one relief worker used to describe Abaco, the island in the Bahamas that was bludgeoned with Hurricane Dorian's gusts as powerful as 220 miles per hour.

Last night in a press conference, Bahamas PM Hubert Minnis said some areas had been "decimated" as the death toll rose to at least 20.

The grim expectation is that there is a lot more dead in what is being called "total devastation."

But, rescue teams as just beginning to get on the ground - and have to deal with flooded roadways, many of them blocked by trees.

Prime Minister Minnis has said that the priority at this time is search, rescue and recovery.

According to the BBC, The International Red Cross estimates that 45% of homes on Grand Bahama and the Abacos - some 13,000 properties - have been severely damaged or destroyed.

The Government of Belize has committed $100,000 US dollars, and if you want to donate though the local Red Cross - cash donation are being accepted at any branch of the following commercial banks:

Heritage Bank Ltd. - A/C # 1082665
