Rotary and Puma Provide Scholarships
posted (September 6, 2019)
And, finally tonight, the Rotary club of Belize sunrise and Puma Energy have partnered to provide 25 scholarships to students and graduates of the St. John Vianney primary school.

We attended one of their scholarship ceremonies two days ago as they provided scholarships to five students starting high-school at ACC. Representatives from both organizations told us more about how they came together for the cause.

Dr. Selma Bermudez, President Rotary Club of Belize
"It's a tuition scholarship so it's the price of the tuition that the schools have. We will also help with mentoring, tutoring if need be so it's all accumulative."

"So, this means everything to a child. I think education is fundamental and everybody deserves and education. So, if we can help that's just what we will do so i trust that these students will take this opportunity and do good with it."

Hugo Moguel, Past President, Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise
"We know the country has a lot of issues. You need to start working locally and so that's the view here. It's listen we've been working at this school for the past three years we need to take it to the next level and let's focus on the school, and let's try different things and see what's works and let's identify partners in the area that we can work with. If this is successful then we will set out a road map that is successful for many neighborhoods and hopefully we can replicate it and maybe others can replicate it in their own neighborhoods."

Freddy Flores, General Manager, Puma Energy
"Part of our initiative that we have at Puma energy is energizing the communities it is very important for us to give back to the communities that support us. The Port Loyola area and this area has always supported Puma energy and the terminal that we've had here. It's one of our vision to have a scholarship program that will be able to not only financial benefit the students but also give back something an added value and so we partnered with Rotary sunrise club to add an added value of a mentoring program toward this scholarship."

"Kids will benefit from this scholarship program, five today that were awarded are from ACC but all of them start from the St. John's Vianney which is in our neighborhood."

"We look forward to mentoring, engaging with the kids, making sure they're on the right path if they need help with tutoring counseling if needed extra. So we're very excited about it. We want to engage our staff and even site operators to be part of our mentoring process."

The 25 scholarship recipients are enrolled in highs chools throughout Belize City.
